Inquiry - UV Safety (2025-2026)

In 2025, the APPG for Beauty, Hair and Wellbeing launched its inquiry into UV safety in the UK.

The aim of the inquiry is to protect the public against harmful UVA and UVB exposure and the increased risk of skin cancer.

To this end, the inquiry has sought to review the status of UV safety in the UK; evaluate the standard of education on UV safety throughout the UK; assess the UV safety information disseminated via media platforms; assess the affordability of UV protection products and whether cost has an impact on usage; assess whether changes in behaviour towards UV exposure could relieve the burden on the NHS; and review the way in which products and services that involve UV exposure are marketed.

As part of this work, the APPG sought written and oral evidence. The call for evidence is now closed.

Concluding this inquiry, the final report—A Preventable Crisis: The Case for a National UV Safety Strategy—was officially published on the 13th of May 2026.

The APPG launched an important year-long inquiry into aesthetic non-surgical cosmetic treatments to investigate how standards for undertaking and advertising treatments such as botulinum toxins or similar anti-wrinkle injectables, dermal fillers, polydioxanone (PDO) threads and cogs, should be improved to support the beauty and aesthetics industry and protect public safety.

The Group ran a 6-week call for written evidence in June 2020 and invited witnesses to give oral evidence in its inquiry.

On Wednesday 21st June, the APPG published its concluding report and recommendations for Government.
